WATER POLO: GLENWOOD HIGH vs NORTHWOOD HIGH:Â Â The Glenwood first team played Northwood in the pre-season league on Saturday morning hosted by Kearsney College. Despite the chilly weather our boys managed to start with great intensity and put a lot of pressure on the Northwood team with a tight press defence. This resulted in 4 good counter attack goals in the first chukka. This was the start we were hoping for as we had a number of juniors on the bench hoping to get their first cap for Glenwood first team. Jordan Van Rooyen, Mathew Van Vuuren, Franco Van der Merwe all making their debuts. It was a good team performance with a solid defensive effort only allowing Northwood to score 2 goals, one of which an unlucky deflection off one of our defenders. The game finished 9-2 to Glenwood.
WATER POLO: GLENWOOD vs KEARSNEY:Â Â The Glenwood first team played Kearsney College in our second fixture on Saturday 18 August at the pre-season League match hosted by Kearsney College. We knew that this would be a tough fixture against a fired up and talented Kearsney side. Some poor decisions on attack saw us turn the ball over and concede 6 counter attack goals in the first chukka, leaving us a huge mountain to climb. We managed to slow the scoring in the second and third chukkas but that 6 goal gap from our poor start meant we were never really in the game. Compliments must go to Kearsney, who took every opportunity they were given and closed the game out 14-5. A tough loss for the Glenwood boys but we will work hard to rectify our mistakes and look to bounce back in the next fixture.
