Glenwood High School celebrated Mandela Day – See video

Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010.
Mandela Day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world, the ability to make an impact.

Glenwood boys walked 67 minutes on Friday in celebration of Mandela Day. The Form VI boys walked to Savior Cafe where they dropped off food in support of the soup kitchen which they run from the restaurant. The boys then walked to Glenwood Preparatory School and dropped off goods in support of open Door Crisis Care Centre. The Centre runs The Men for Change project covers four pillars of operation:

Prevention: Awareness and educational programmes – with a special focus into rural areas addressing
Protection: Accommodation in a safe environment
Prosecution: Preparing victims for the court to ensure better prosecution outcomes.
Partnerships: The Open Door works closely with all state departments, SAPS, Department of Welfare and recognised Non-profit and civil society organisations.
Ann Young is a Trauma Counsellor at the centre. Ann is a mom to Glenwood old boys and her grandson will be joining Glenwood next year.
