There were a number of first timers from Glenwood High School from Durban on the tour and juniors. An excellent opportunity to earn great experience before the league starts next term. Some learners were surprised to see the competitive level of chess and the seriousness of the game.
Highly regarded by many schools and recognised as a sport by definition according to the Department of Sport themselves!
Not to mention the tournament was, as usual, of the highest quality with a good number of South African players.
Even though our boys did not place, it was a learning curve on the different aspects of the game.
Well done to Waydin Chunderduri of Grade 12 who won all his games and received a board prize.
