Glenwood Cricket. Glenwood 1st XI beat Northwood by 44 runs away at Northwood on Friday 24 September. Northwood winning the toss and electing to bowl. The home side started well and had Glenwood 27-3 after 9 Overs.
Captain Chad Laycock, and vice-Captain Banele Cele, then began to rebuild the Glenwood innings. The pair put on a 133 run partnership before Chad Laycock fell agonisingly short of his century, being caught for 95 runs. A moment of brilliance followed with Jason Pearce of Northwood taking a hat trick. Clean bowling Banele Cele for 44 and then claiming the scalps of Zander de Coning and Wian Janse van Rensburg all in consecutive deliveries.
This time it was senior players Russel Heine and Rasen Naidoo that attempted to get the team to a competitive score. The two put on 57 runs together with Heine finishing on 32 and Naidoo 35. Glenwood being bowled out for 246 in the 45th Over.
Northwood started well until Northwood batsman Thulani Chiliza was superbly run out by James Bosch. The Chase for Northwood was going smoothly with The Knights going into tea on 123/3 after 25 overs. The introduction of Russel Heine immediately after the break seemed to be the difference on the day, with the Glenwood off-spinner taking 4 wickets for 32 Runs off his 8 overs.
The Green Machine winning the match by 44 runs bowling Northwood out for 202 after 42 overs.
Thank you to Northwood for their hospitality, and for what was an excellent display of schoolboy cricket from both teams.
