The final week of Kearsney College’s official rugby season saw the One-Stripe travel to Pretoria to face a strong St Alban’s College side.
The hosts opened the scoring with a physical display from their forward pack. They converted a penalty to take an early lead. Kearsney responded with a try from Bukho Hlwatika, but two more penalties from the hosts gave St Alban’s a 9–5 advantage heading into the final five minutes of the first half.
What followed was a five-minute blitz from Kearsney, who ran in three tries courtesy of Hlwatika (2) and Lwandle Mkhize. This sudden scoring surge also saw the visitors surge ahead 20–9 at halftime.
The second half began with the same intensity, as Kearsney maintained relentless pressure and clinical finishing. They added seven more tries. It was scored by Nhlanhla Ndlovu, Doan Nel, Lwazi Mbebe, Fynn Verbaan, Oliver Ludwig, and two more from the on-fire Hlwatika.
A resolute defensive effort kept St Alban’s scoreless in the second half, sealing a commanding 59–9 victory for Kearsney.
This impressive performance closed out Kearsney’s season with back-to-back wins, having edged out St Stithians 26–25 in a thrilling match the previous weekend.
