Filmit Festival. It is with great excitement that Paul Roos Gymnasium announces the launch of the third annual Filmit Festival 2023. What is the Filit Festival?
The Filmit Festival is a film competition for high school learners from Southern Africa (SA and its neighbouring countries). Short films, documentaries, music videos, animations, advertisements and also other film entries can be submitted. Industry specialists are invited to share their knowledge and experience with aspiring young film makers. The Shop Talk Sessions are hosted to empower young filmmakers to develop their ideas and produce their films with great success.

- 6. Announcement of Filmit Festival nominees | 17 October 2023
- 7. Filmit Festival Awards Ceremony | 3 or 10 November 2023 (TBC)
*Finalists will be required to pay a R500 participation fee once their pitches have also been selected for the Filmit Festival 2023. Pitch submissions (8 May 2023) can be submitted at no cost.

What are the Shop Talk Sessions?
The filmmaking year will be kickstarted with the Shop Talk Sessions. Industry specialists have also been invited to share their knowledge and experience with aspiring young film makers at these Shop Talk Sessions. The sessions are hosted to empower young filmmakers to develop their ideas and produce their films with great success. By starting with the Shop Talk Sessions learners will have the opportunity to fine tune their concepts before submitting their pitches to the panel of judges in May. Paul Roos Gymnasium invites any high school learner from any school in Southern Africa to attend the Filmit Festival Shop Talk Sessions between 28 and 30 April at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town.
This year the Shop Talk Sessions form a part of the Suidoosterfees– a dynamic arts festival hosted annually at Artscape Theatre in Cape Town. Learners who want to experience the Shop Talk Sessions but cannot afford to travel to Cape Town to attend them, can view these Shop Talk Sessions on the Filmit YouTube Channel. PRG Productions will be filming and recording each session and uploading it to YouTube for learners from neighbouring provinces and countries to view from the comfort of their homes or classrooms.
