Erries President.
My ouers, my inspirasie
Jy is ‘n kombuisartikel? Wat is jy en hoekom? “Ek sien myself as ‘n Vergiettes.
Ek glo dat my vriende my sien as pligsgetrou en eerlik.
My gunsteling onderwyser is Juffrou Lynelle Grobler.
My toekoms-ideale?
Erries President
In our series on schools’ main leaders for next year, Schools That Rock talks to Johan Strauss. Johan, Erries President for 2023, tells us more about himself and his leadership.
“I have a calm and collective personality, which makes it easier for me to take the lead. I also believe that I gain respect by always treating my fellow scholars with respect.
My personal goals for the next year are that I would like to achieve even better academically. I would also like to be a good headteacher and I hope that any learner will have the confidence to discuss any issue with me.
My goals for Erries during my term of service are that we will be a strong leadership group, leading the school to new heights. EHS is a school to be proud of and I believe we can contribute to making it even better and stronger.”
Biggest Challenge
What were the biggest challenges you experienced as a learner of Ermelo High School? “It doesn’t feel to me like I’ve had any really big challenges. Although I am not a standout on the sports fields, culture and academic achievement make up for it.
What stands out most to me at EHS is spirit, passion and tradition. At EHS, we do everything with dedication and passion, whether it’s on the sports fields or on a cultural level. There is great spirit at all times and we stick to our good traditions, which makes us unique.
My parents, my inspiration
For inspiration or mentorship, I look up to my parents. They always support me and motivate me to do and achieve things I didn’t think would be possible.”
You’re a kitchen article? What are you and why? “I see myself as a colander. Taking in everything that’s going on around me, keep what’s important behind, and let the rest go through.
I believe that my friends see me as conscientious and honest. Also that I’m not afraid to take on new challenges and to go for it to the fullest.”
Becoming part of Erries
Why would you advise learners to also become part of Erries? “Our school can’t be compared to other schools – EHS is just different. With us, each learner gets his/her place where he/she fits in, so that they can enjoy their school years to the fullest.
My favorite teacher is Miss Lynelle Grobler. I never look up to going to her class. It’s always fun there. She is always the same: friendly and cool.
My future ideals? Although I am still unsure of what I want to do after school, I hope to succeed in everything and tackle it with persistence.”
