Easter Rugby Festival 2026. Day three, Monday First game.
Grey skies, cool conditions, and a pristine Stott Field greeted Hoërskool Transvalia and Hoërskool Framesby on Easter Monday at the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival (KERF). The pitch was immaculate thanks to the tireless work of the grounds crew, who labored deep into the night after a major storm.
Framesby, buoyed by their victory over Glenwood High on Saturday, started with intent. For the opening eight minutes, they kept Transvalia pinned inside their own half. Their pressure eventually told midway through the first half: after being repelled through eight phases from a lineout, they struck at the next opportunity when flank Josh Potgieter powered over. Flyhalf Miles Feltham added the extras with a superb conversion from wide on the left.
Stung into action, Transvalia responded with renewed urgency. They drove play into Framesby’s 22 and came close through a 20-metre rolling maul, only to lose the ball forward at the crucial moment. Another chance went begging just before halftime when they outflanked Framesby on the right, but the final pass was spilled.
As the whistle blew for the break, Botha’s Hill mist rolled in and light rain descended, shrouding the field in a soupy haze.
Transvalia emerged from the interval determined. They were held up over the line from a lineout, but broke through five minutes later when burly center Lorenzo Flynn muscled his way over. Chester MacCammel converted to level matters at 7-7.
Framesby nearly regained the lead soon after. Unfortunately No. 8 David Matyani knocked on a grubber in a desperate race with a covering defender. In the slippery conditions, scoring opportunities were scarce. Twice, Framesby opted to kick penalties to touch rather than attempt shots at goal, and both chances went to waste.
Feltham pointed to the posts
With the game in the balance and the skies clearing in the final minute, Framesby earned another penalty inside the 22. This time Feltham pointed to the posts. Calm under pressure, he slotted the kick to seal a dramatic 10-7 victory.
It was a fitting finale for the Gqeberha side. They had endured a bruising 83-0 defeat to Westville Boys’ High on opening day, but finished KERF with back-to-back wins.
Final Score
- Transvalia 7 (0) Try: Lorenzo Flynn Conversion: Chester MacCammel
