Debating in South Africa is widely participated in within schools across the country, with competition being rigorous between debaters at local, provincial and national levels. During the December holidays, Sebastian Ridge (Grade 11) competed in the South African Schools National Debating Championship (SANSDC) as part of the KwaZulu-Natal Schools Debating (KZNSDA) delegation. It is a demanding commitment, with practices occurring almost every weekend for several months leading up to the tournament. Sebastian achieved exceptionally well, ranking within the top 5 speakers in the province and within the top 20 in the country, where he was also selected as a trialist for the South African Schools National Debating squad. Congratulations to Sebastian who was awarded his Honours for Debating recently, for competing in the SANSDC tournament. – Ms Roselyn Dredge (Head of Culture) and Mr Travis McCabe
