Curro Mount Richmore. It is a priviledge for Schools That Rock to ask a few questions to Yuvraj Misra, Head Boy of 2022, from Curro Mount Richmore in Ballito, Durban.
Yuvraj, how do you see your role as head leader of Curro Mount Richmore?
I believe that the role of a leader is to inspire others to evolve and develop themselves. The role of being the head prefect of Curro Mount Richmore is one that will ensure we are an extension of the goals of management and to make the running of the school a little easier. We must first lead by example and walk the talk, thereby inspiring the other students to develop the same respect and great values to become ambassadors of the Curro brand. I also see the role to be a link between the students and management of the school, thereby also ensuring that we all develop a vision and ensure we embrace this together.
Do you think the measures taken by the government in respect of Covid-19 for schools are justified?
The measures taken by the government have been to ensure that all South Africa’s people are safe and have been no different to the measures implemented in many other developing countries. I believe that as long as we do not have the majority of South Africans vaccinated our government is almost forced to implement strict measures to restrict the spread of COVID-19.
Who do you look to for inspiration and mentorship?
My inspiration is my father. He is always a pillar of strength for our family and we can always count on him. During my stint for job shadowing at his workplace, many of the staff heaped praise on him for his visionary leadership, fairness and of high integrity. I think that, that inspiration rubs off onto myself and my brother to work hard and achieve our goals.
Which field of study do you intend pursuing after school?
I have developed a passion for accounting and intend pursuing a career as a Chartered Accountant. Both my parents studied accounting and there are many accountants in our family… seems to be in the genes.
Do you think participation in sport should be made compulsory in schools?
Sport assists students as a stress reliever an also teaches many life lessons such as the importance of teamwork, respect, obedience and playing by the rules, to name a few. It is also important to have a balance in life and a healthy mind requires a healthy body to function optimally and sport assists with this.
What did you enjoy most during your school career?
I enjoyed the time I spent with friends at Curro. From the camps where we all bonded together, to them getting me to become open and express myself and getting me out of my comfort zone. Many of my teachers and colleagues played a major role in building my confidence as well as motivating me to do better.
Are you 100% sure of the field of study you contemplate pursuing after school? Please explain your answer.
Accounting has become my passion ever since I was introduced to it in grade 8 and since then I have not looked back. I believe that the subjects that you enjoy, are the subjects that you will most likely pursue further, and accounting is that subject for me. I know it will be a difficult journey, but I am 100% sure and committed to it.
Which University would you like to attend ?
I am considering attending either the University of Stellenbosch or the University of Pretoria.
