As we all know, the World Health Organisation officially declared the COVID-19 coronavirus a pandemic. These are scary times, especially for enquiring young minds who are just starting to ask questions about germs, doctors, and even death.
So, how can you put your child’s mind at ease?Safety is a primary concern for this age group. Reassure them that adults are in charge and working to keep people safe, healthy and secure.
Young children are not always able to distinguish between fantasy and reality so keep them away from media coverage.
Look for non-verbal signs that your child may be anxious. This might include being scared to go outside, or being extra weepy, clingy, or irritable.
Try to create and stick to other routines when you can while your child is not at school.
Give them lots of hugs and physical reassurance.
Remember, if you remain calm your child will too.
