Curro Heritage House. A message from Arthee Rajkumar, Executive Head of Curro Heritage House.
“It is my pleasure to congratulate Curro Heritage House on its 50th anniversary. The school has a rich history and has established a name that is synonymous with success and prestige in Durban. I recently joined Heritage House. I was excited to be part of a school filled with culture, traditions and values.
Curro Heritage House has celebrated countless moments filled with hugs, smiles, cheer and joy over these many years. Learners entered our school as babies of 3 months and left after completing matric. They benefited from our practical, relevant and enjoyable schooling career. I would like to take this opportunity to honour Tracey Kim Bolton and Beatrice Hlatshwayo. They have been with us for 26 years. These two dedicated staff members have spent more than a quarter of a century serving Curro Heritage House and upholding its legacy. We salute you Tracey and Beatrice! Thank you for all that you have done for Curro Heritage house.
Wonderful and great things
Occasions like this remind us of the many wonderful and great things that took place over the years. I hope that everyone associated with our school takes the time to reflect and is proud of all the incredible accomplishments of the past five decades. Thank you to all the learners, staff, parents and community members, both past and present for your hard work in making the school the incredible school that it is.
Once again, congratulations on 50 years of history-making. The future is bright for Curro Heritage House.”
HISTORY OF CURRO HERITAGE HOUSE
Wonderland Pre-Primary was founded by Edwina Grossi in 1972. As the Pre-School grew, the need for quality day care arose and in the 1996 Edwina opened Wonderland Baby Care. After observing the changes in education in South Africa, Dr Grossi established Embury College, a private primary school in January 1998. In 2001, Embury Primary was also established and located in three beautifully restored Victorian heritage houses as well as four additional properties in close proximity to the Pre-School. Like Wonderland, Embury college also provided its pupils with an atmosphere that was warm, caring and conductive to learning.
Another facility which fell under the Embury umbrella was the Embury Institute for teachers Education which was founded in 2000. The institute has SAQA (South African Quality Assurance) accreditation and is also registered with the Council of Higher Education and the Department of Education. Within all the areas of Wonderland Embury College and Embury Institute for Teachers Education, there was a strong element of Teamwork and commitment to ensuring that very child, and adult who passed trough the doors, encountered unconditional love. Each pupil or student was encouraged to reach their full potential!! In 2012 Curro Holdings bought Embury and owns and manages it.
2018
2018 was an auspicious year as it was the 20th Anniversary of Curro Holdings and that of Embury College. Turning full circle by returning to the original houses and honouring them, the school was named CURRO Heritage House.
The modern High School campus also boasts a full complement of highly quality teachers offering a wide selection of core subjects in preparation for the IEB Exams. The focus of Curro Heritage House is that of future-proofing our learners in preparation for a yet to be discovered new world. This includes academics and a strong steamd focus centering on technological developments such as coding and drone technology. An equally important focus is given to arts, culture, and the performing arts.
Curro Heritage aims to provide a safe and secure environment for our learners to develop to their potential holistically while subscribing to traditional family values in a rapidly changing and fast-paced world.
