Curro Century City – Appointed distinguished swimming coaches

Curro Century City. Curro Holdings, the JSE-listed independent school group, is delighted to announce the appointment of two new swimming coaches at Curro Century City, in Cape Town. From January 2023, Dominique Donner will be the Head of Swimming and Marne Meier the new Learn to Swim coach.

Both women are very well well-known in the local and international swimming circles. Dominque represented South Africa in several world triathlon championships in Europe. She hung up her competitive swimming cap in 2003. Dominique acquired a Level 5 International Age Group Coach certificate from the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA). She has since enjoyed an illustrious coaching career. Natalie Du Toit and Wendy Trott are just two South African Olympian swimmers to have come through the ranks of her junior programme.

She joins Curro having helped the Seals Swimming Club in the North Coast of KwaZulu Natal. She also won the Junior Swimming Championship for a fourth consecutive year.  Not only was she their head coach but she was also the President of the region’s Biathlon Association and Project Manager for Friends of Swimmers Trust.

Admired swimmer

Another equally qualified and admired swimmer is Marne, who won the South African swimming senior nationals medal in 2021. As a previous Northwest University swimming scholarship holder, Marne came fifth in the country at the 2019 South Africa Swimming championships and won the top prize in the 100-metre breaststroke at the 2020 competition.  Since retiring from competitive swimming at the end of last year, Marne has channelled her passion for all things water into coaching, joining the Learn to Swim teaching model.

Commenting on the new promotion, Christiaan Maree, Executive Head at Curro Century City said “We are incredibly honoured to have such great swimming talents join our coaching team. Dominique and Marne not only have a proven record of achieving outstanding results in the pool, but their fantastic past achievements make them great all round role models for our learners. Their passion and ability to motivate the next generation of swimmers is inspiring and makes their appointments thoroughly well deserved. We wish them every success and cannot wait to see them take the Curro Century City swimming squads to the next level.”
