Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Camps Bay High School Learners Join Prestigious Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
Four Grade 10 learners from Camps Bay High School have achieved a remarkable milestone. They have been selected to join the renowned Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (CPYO). It is part of the Cape Philharmonic Music Academy in Cape Town.
The CPYO offers young musicians the rare opportunity to perform at a professional level, honing their skills within a full symphony orchestra. To earn their places, candidates faced a rigorous audition process. They have to perform demanding excerpts from Mozart and Dvořák’s orchestral works, alongside a solo piece of their choice.
🌟 After this highly competitive selection, Ogechukwu Arukwe, Siphesande Makele, Zukhanye Mbatsha, and Alizwa Tibisono emerged successful, securing their seats in the orchestra. Beyond their school achievements, these talented musicians are also members of the Muzukidz Senior Ensemble. It is a programme that enriches young performers with ensemble experience and opportunities for public performance.
Christelle De Vries, Head of Music at Camps Bay High School, expressed her pride: “It’s fantastic to see Ogechukwu, Siphesande, Zukhanye, and Alizwa make it into the CPYO. They’ve worked so hard, and it’s great to see that dedication paying off. Our school music programme is all about giving students a chance to explore their creativity and grow as musicians. It’s wonderful to see them carrying that through to opportunities like this.”
👏 This achievement not only highlights the dedication of the learners. It also reflects the strength of Camps Bay High School’s music programme, which continues to nurture creativity, discipline, and excellence.
