It has been a very successful month of squash for three of Camps Bay High School’s learners, Lochlan Williamson (Grade 11), Emma du Toit (Grade 10) and Brody Williamson (Grade 8).
The three of them competed in the Llandudno Sports Club Annual Squash Championships earlier this month.
Brody won the Juniors Competition to retain his title for the third consecutive year.
Emma came third in the Ladies Competition, narrowly losing against the defending Champion in the semi-finals.
And Lochlan came second in the Mens Competition, being edged out in the final by the defending Champion.
All three of them kept up this good form going into this weekend’s WP Open Squash Tournament held at WPCC, and exceeded their expectations.
Lochlan, playing in the Boys u19 Competition, came 2nd. He must be commended for bravely playing through the pain having suffered a hamstring strain earlier in the tournament, but was determined to get through to his first final, where he put on a gutsy effort against the #1 ranked player in the province. In finishing as runner-up, Lochlan improved his WP ranking from #3 to #2.
Emma, playing in the Girls u16 Competition came 3rd, improving her ranking from 6th to 3rd. Her match against the 3rd seed on Friday was a highlight, with Emma coming back from 0-2 down to win 3.2
And Brody, playing in the Boys u14 Competition, came 4th, improving his ranking from 7th to 4th. He also caused a major upset by beating the #3 seed in the tournament, in a match where Brody saved 4 match points before going on to win 3-2.
Well done to Lochlan, Emma and Brody for flying the CBHS flag proudly on the provincial stage. It bodes very well for our school’s squash team next year.
