Camps Bay High School Grade 10 learner, Daniella Segall from Hout Bay, played her first match for UCT in the Sasol League on Saturday. At just 16 years old, Daniella is the youngest player on the team.
Established in 2009, the Sasol League is South Africa’s semi-professional women’s football league. It is played in all the provinces of the country and used as a conveyor belt for the SAFA National Women’s League, en route to the various women’s National Teams and Banyana Banyana.
In her first match playing for UCT on Saturday, Daniella’s team beat their opposition, Portia, 7-0 – an excellent start to their season.
Said Camps Bay High School’s Head of Sport, Ms Busi Ngcwama, “Daniella is a star on the soccer field. She darts around her opposition so quickly, they don’t see her coming! She has been playing soccer since she was 10 years old for Legends and then for Camps Bay and she practices almost every day ensuring that she is amongst the best young players around.”
Added Ngcwama, “Daniella is not just a star on the soccer field, she is consistently one of the top academic achievers in her Grade and is one of the RCL representatives for her Grade, managing to find a good balance to ensure excellence in a number of spheres of school life.
We couldn’t be prouder!”
