BNP Paribas Rising Stars – Paul Roos Tennisspan beste in SA

BNP Paribas Rising Stars. Paul Roos Gimnasium, Stellenbosch, se O.16 Tennisspan is aangewys as die beste O/16 skole tennis span in Suid-Afrika. Die span het die BNP Paribas Rising Stars National Finals by Groenkloof in Pretoria gewen. Hierdie is ‘n landswye tennis-toernooi, aangebied deur Tennis Suid-Afrika. Die wenner moet deurdring vanaf streeksvlak na provinsiale vlak. Daarna gaan hulle na die nasionale finaal waar al die provinsiale wenners kragte meet.

Die Paul Roos span by die BNP Paribas Rising Stars National Finals het bestaan uit die enkels-spelers Willem de Waal en Pieter Kotze. PRG se dubbels-paar van Divan Prinsloo en Christiaan Cronje was die ander spanlede. Die PRG span was derde gekeur by die nasionale finaal. Die span het egter uitstekend presteer deur met die 1ste gekeurde Grey College span in die semi-finaal af te reken. Daarna het hulle met die 2de gekeurde Waterkloof afgereken om die titel te wen. Albei wedstryde was baie taai en die Maroon Machine het in beide gevalle met 2 wedstryde teenoor 1 gewen.

In 2022 het die PRG span naelskraap met 1-2 teen St.Stithians verloor. Volgens hul afrigter, Swannie Swanepoel, is die rede vir hul konstante sukses, baie dissipline en harde werk oor ‘n baie lang tyd. 

BNP Paribas Rising Stars

The U/16 Tennis Team of Paul Roos Gymnasium, Stellenbosch, was named the best U/16 schools tennis team in South Africa. The team won the BNP Paribas Rising Stars National Finals at Groenkloof, Pretoria. This is a nationwide tennis tournament, hosted by Tennis South Africa. The winner must advance from regional level to provincial level. Then they also go to the national final where all the provincial winners measure forces.

The Paul Roos team at the BNP Paribas Rising Stars National Finals consisted of singles players Willem de Waal and Pieter Kotze. PRG’s doubles pair of Divan Prinsloo and Christiaan Cronje were the other team members. The PRG team was seeded third at the national final. However, the team performed admirably by finishing with the 1st seeded Grey College team in the semi-finals. They then also squared off with the 2nd-seeded Waterkloof to win the title. Both matches were very tough and the Maroon Machine won 2 matches versus 1 in both cases.

In 2022, the PRG team lost 1-2 to St.Stithians. According to their coach, Swannie Swanepoel, the reason for their constant success is a lot of discipline and also hard work over a very long time.
