After an extremely impressive win over Michaelhouse last week, it was always going to be difficult for the Saints to lift themselves for their next game. The St Charles College team travelled to Clifton, Durban to take on their long-time rivals. In the scorching heat, the Saints managed to build up an early lead by incorporating a press on the Clifton team. Clifton struggled with the full-court pressure and ultimately turned the ball over resulting in some easy layups for the visiting team. However, the Clifton team rallied against the Saints’ bench and ultimately kept the game close through the third period. With a stiff wind in play, perimeter shooting was challenging at best and Clifton held their zone defence well. The fourth period saw the Saints’ starters take the floor and ultimately open the game. Once again, good defence led to easy baskets as the lead widened. The visitors ultimately ran away with a comfortable win, 59-37. St Charles College now takes on Maritzburg College this weekend in the local derby – this always promises to be a tightly contested affair.
