Basketball Classic Challenge. St David’s Marist Inanda Hoops Classic Challenge.
From 16–19 October 2025, the St Andrew’s College U15A and 1st basketball teams travelled to Johannesburg to compete in the prestigious annual St David’s Marist Inanda Hoops Classic Challenge.
🔹 U15A Team Recap
Fresh off a strong showing at the Zwide Eagles Tournament—where they reached the finals—the U15A team entered the Hoops Classic eager to build on their momentum against some of South Africa’s top basketball schools.
- Day One: The team faced a tough opener, falling 20–56 to Parktown Boys’ High.
- Day Two: Marked improvement saw them narrowly edged out 32–36 by St Alban’s, followed by a spirited performance against St Benedict’s.
- Pool Stage Progress: As the tournament progressed, the boys grew in confidence and cohesion, ending the pool stage on a high note.
- Consolation Round: They delivered an excellent win over King Edward VII School and followed up with a competitive match against Kings Linbro.
While results were mixed, the tournament offered invaluable experience, fostering growth, resilience, and team unity.
🔹 1st Team Recap
The 1st Team kicked off their campaign with a dramatic comeback victory over Jeppe Boys’ High School, overturning a 4–12 first-quarter deficit to win 25–23.
- Game Two: Despite another slow start, they fought hard but narrowly lost 40–43.
- Day Two: Faced Michael Mount and St John’s College. After a promising start against Michael Mount, they faded in the second quarter, losing 39–51. Later, in a high-intensity clash on the main court, they trailed St John’s 24–27 after three quarters, but late turnovers saw the game slip away 32–44.
- Final Round: College fell 25–34 to Redhill but closed the tournament with a dominant 31–15 win over St Peter’s, securing 15th place overall.
Though the final standings didn’t fully reflect their potential, the team showcased admirable spirit, determination, and teamwork throughout the tournament.
🌟 Final Reflection
Both teams represented St Andrew’s College with pride and tenacity. The tournament provided a valuable platform for learning and growth, and the experience gained will undoubtedly strengthen their future performances.
