Award Ceremony. During the first week of the new school term, Curro Create broadcast their online award ceremony for the Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival. All the results for the #Straight2Camera Monologue Festival and Play Festival were announced.
The main prize of the ceremony was a creative arts scholarship to the value of R50 000. The prize being awarded to a Grade 12 learner who had demonstrated the most talent and service to the Curro Create initiative, over the last few years. Going against tradition, two learners, both from Curro Sitari, each walk away with the scholarship.
Congratulations to Phoebe Mgxaji and Wanda Jacobs! What a fantastic achievement, we are so proud of you!
Phoebe also won the “Best Actress” award in the One Act Play Festival. She was also crowned runner up in the #straight2camera Festival for Grade 11 to Grade 12 learners.
Dancing Duo Nel sisters
Curro is so proud of the dynamic Nel sister duo, Claudi (Grade 2) and Kaela (Grade 1) Nel. Both these girls have excelled in their dancing competition that was hosted during the September holidays.
Claudi: BALLET – Regional and National second place – solo performance. First place Regional – ballet group performance. National first place – ballet group performance age group 7-8
MODERN DANCING – First place Regional and National second place – lyrical solo. Regional first place – age group 9-10. National overall winners – age group 9-10
Kaela: BALLET – Regional and National first place – own choice classical solo. First place Regional – trio age group 9-10. Regional first and National third place – age group 9-10. Regional second place and National 1st place – age group 12 and under ballet repertoire.
MODERN DANCING – Regional second place – lyrical solo. Regional 1st pace – jazz solo. Regional second place – contemporary soloo National 1st place – solo acrobatics
o National 2nd place jazz group performance – age group 11-12. During the week of 18-23 October, Kaela will also be competing in the SA International Ballet Competition. This is a very prestigious repertoire competition with dancers and judges from all over the world.
Welcome to Curro Somerset West, Sitari Estate
A week of celebrations as Curro Sitari had their name changed and are now know as Curro Somerset West.
With the rebranding and name change comes celebrations. This week was filled with loads thereof. Each learner was gifted with a badge that they can wear close to their hearts. These badges have the new Curro Somerset West logo printed on them. It also has their 4 values which the school encourages the learners to live by.
The teachers were gifted with something sweet and something for energy. Curro knows that the way to their hearts is through a great coffee.
Robotics at Curro somerset West
A huge congratulations to the Robotics team. They took part in the WRO Virtual Robotics games final this weekend. The duo, Jadon Steele (Grade 5) and Qiyu Weng (Grade 6) battled it out against formidable teams. The teams are from around the world from the U.S, Philippines, Mexico, Malaysia, Jamaica and many more.
The team (Pseudoki) achieved a respectable 64 place out of the 90 teams that participated. Curro’s team represented their school and country on a global level. They gained invaluable experience and exposure by taking part. The school looks forward to seeing more from the dynamic duo.
Radikale Redenaars Achievers | Double win for the Wings
The Radikale Redenaars is a competition for all South African schools. Schools whose vision is to create ample opportunity for learners to speak in front of an audience. The competition offers the entrants 11 categories to participate in. Learners are adjudicated on Provincial and finally National levels.
Curro is very proud to announce that James Wing in Grade 5 and his sister Megan Wing in Grade 3 both competed in the National final. Both received first place in their respective categories. They have made the school so proud.
