Tennis Honours Awards – St Andrew’s College

Tennis Honours Awards. St Andrew’s College, Grahamstown, has great pleasure in acknowledging Cameron Bennett’s contributions and accomplishments by awarding Cameron Bennett Honours for Tennis.

Over the past four and a half years St Andrew’s College, had the distinct privilege of observing the remarkable development of this boy, as both a tennis player and a leader within our tennis program.

He has demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication and perseverance in his pursuit of tennis excellence. His accomplishments are a testament to his commitment and innate talent coupled with hard work.

Notably, he has achieved a prestigious Tennis South Africa ranking below 30 in the boys U18 category and currently holds the number 1 ranking in the Eastern Cape.

Top 25 in just over 7 months

To put his recent progress in perspective: he started 2024 ranked no. 408 in the country. Week in and week out, training hard and entering tournaments around the country, he managed to improve his position to top 25 in just over 7 months.

In addition to his individual accolades, he has been an indispensable member of the St Andrew’s College tennis team. Representing the Eastern Cape as one of the top seeds in the Interprovincial Tournaments, he has consistently exhibited not only his playing skills, but also exemplary sportsmanship. His behaviour has been commended by peers, opponents and officials alike, reflecting his maturity and respect for others.

Cameron’s success extends to national tournaments, such as the TSA Nationals, where he and his doubles partner have secured significant victories against formidable opponents.

His leadership qualities have been equally impressive. Serving as the captain of the College Tennis Club for both 2023 and 2024, he has not only elevated his own performance, but has also been a source of support and inspiration for his teammates. His mentorship and passion extend beyond the court, serving as a role model to younger players tennis players at St Andrew’s College.

During the Interhouse Tournament in Term 2, his dedication was evident, as he was often the last player to leave the courts, despite his matches being among the first to finish. His early arrival for practices and meticulous preparation for fixtures are indicative of the personal growth he has achieved since 2020. His focus on improvement is commendable.

Cameron’s exceptional dedication, leadership and achievements make him a highly deserving candidate for tennis Honours.
