Curro Athletics. Great excitement reigned at Curro Serengeti last week when the fastest man in South Africa, Akani Simbine, spent some time with the school’s athletics. Apart from being an Olympic athlete, Simbine is the CEO of Backtrack Sports, a local sports company that will be involved in the school’s athletics by training Curro Serengeti’s athletes in 2022.
“We know that Curro Serengeti has some exceptional talent. Therefore we are excited to see how our athletes develop under the guiding hand of a professional such as Akani and his team. We are excited about the rest of the athletic season. Watch this space…” says Henri Neethling, the school’s Head of Sport.
During the visit, learners and teachers were treated to two exciting sprints. One was between Simbine and Henri and another nailbiting race-off between Simbine and Ofentse Mametsa. Ofentse is a grade 11 learner. Simbine was kind enough to let Ofentse match him before he flew off, as expected.
