St Andrew’s School, Bloemfontein, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Roland Herman Rudd, as Headmaster in succession to Mr Chris Thomas, who retired in December 2020.
Mr Rudd is only the 9th Headmaster to lead the school since 1916. Mr Rudd’s appointment takes effect in August 2021. Mr Rudd is no stranger to the Free State having matriculated at Grey College in 2001. Until his appointment at Saint Andrew’s, Mr Rudd was at Wynberg Boys’ High in Cape Town as HOD, Vice Principal of Boarding and Admissions and has had an illustrious career at the School since 2006. He also served as Vice Principal of Sport and was head of the hostels. In 2011 he was voted Western Province Secondary School Educator of the year and was placed 6th nationally.
Mr Rudd completed a Bachelor in Education degree at the University of the Free State where he received the Golden Key, and was named best B.Ed. student. In 2013 he obtained his honours in education at the University of Cape Town, also as top student. He is currently teaching Engineering, Graphics and Design, English and Technology.
He was heavily involved in sport at Wynberg Boys’ High, at school, league and provincial level. He was nominated as the Nedbank Challenge Coach to take a development soccer team to Italy, to showcase young talent to international coaches.
He is also a firm believer in community service, an area well established at St Andrew’s. St Andrew’s welcomes the Rudd family to Bloemfontein, and looks forward to the contribution that the Headmaster, who has vast experience in the ethos and environment of an all-boys educational institution, will bring to the School which is steeped in tradition and history.
