The beloved Watermelon Festival took place on the 29th of January on the B-Rugby field of Aliwal North High School.
The event, hosted by the school’s UCSA club, saw dozens of Alies doused in mud, chasing each other around and throwing mud at one another with equal amounts of grins and mud plastered on their faces. Of course this all happened after they had feasted around tables topped with mouth watering watermelon slices. It truly was a spectacle to see everyone engage with one another and share in childlike fun. “It made our hearts radiate with joy to see Alies, big and small, enjoying the afternoon.”
The UCSA’s watermelon festival aims to decrease some of the anxiety students might feel about the upcoming school year and to bring students together to enjoy an afternoon of unadulterated fun. The UCSA is a place where students feel safe and at ease with just being themselves and this year’s Watermelon fest was no exception.
