During the school holidays, Marelise Lombard, form Maragon Ruimsig, attended the KFC Mini Cricket National Seminar at the Oubaai hotel in George. At the seminar, Marelise was awarded the KFC Mini Cricket SA coach of the year. In May, Marelise was also awarded the Gauteng Mini Cricket coordinator of the year award at the Gauteng Lions awards evening. Coaches, players and clubs are invited to this prestigious evening to acknowledge their contributions to cricket.
Marelise has been coaching Mini Cricket since 2007 and has been involved in the coordinating of the Johannesburg West Mini Cricket since 2009. Marelise and Christa van Gerve (also a teacher at Maragon) started their journey as JHB West Mini Cricket Coordinators together in 2009, the same year that KFC came on board with the sponsorship of the Mini cricket.
Marelise has also been involved in empowering the coaches in JHB West with the skills they need to coach Mini cricket. Her passion truly shines through on the sports field.
“Mini cricket is one of my passions and the successes of my students are the most rewarding achievement above everything I do.”
