Easter Rugby Festival 2026. Final day game three.
Hoërskool Rustenburg, having already faced the formidable challenges of Kearsney College and Durban High School (DHS) earlier in the festival, squared up to Zimbabwe’s Peterhouse Boys’ on Monday at Botha’s Hill.
There was no respite. Peterhouse began with pace and precision, absorbing Rustenburg’s early territorial pressure before surging into opposition territory.
In the fifth minute, hooker Bongani Dube produced a moment of brilliance. What looked like a missed pass was deftly plucked from the air, and with a sharp spin and acceleration, he raced clear to score. Victor Watama added the conversion: 7–0.
The Marondera side, brimming with energy, pressed again through another powerful Dube run. Five minutes before halftime, Watama slotted a straightforward penalty to stretch the lead to 10–0.
Rustenburg, however, finally found its spark. Tighthead prop Dylan Knoesen spearheaded a series of bruising carries, setting the platform for Keegan Harmse to burrow over from close range. Flyhalf Ricardo Enos converted, narrowing the gap to 10–7 at the break.
Despite Peterhouse’s dominance, the margin remained slim.
Early in the second half, Rustenburg tightened its play and seized momentum. When Peterhouse lost a prop to a yellow card, Rusties chose a scrum and powered over through lock Thian Labuschagne, taking the lead for the first time.
Peterhouse responded in style. From deep inside his 22, Watama launched a towering kick to the left touchline. Lock Mufaro Mawoyo contested superbly, offloading to captain Munashe Masamha, who sprinted 55 meters to score. Watama converted: Peterhouse back in front, 17–12.
The contest swung again. Rustenburg hammered away with six phases before Labuschagne twisted over for his second try. Enos converted from in front, and Rusties reclaimed the lead.
Fatigue set in late, with scrappy exchanges reflecting the toll of three bruising encounters. Yet Rustenburg held firm. With a scrum five meters out, Labuschagne completed his hat-trick, sealing the match. Enos added the extras, and Rustenburg closed out a hard-fought 26–17 victory.
