Easter Rugby Festival 2026 – Glenwood High vs Dr EG Jansen

Easter Rugby Festival 2026. Day three, second game.

The early morning mist had lifted when Glenwood High and Dr EG Jansen clashed on Stott Field in Monday’s second game at KERF. Slippery underfoot conditions made ball handling tricky, though the cool air kept energy levels high.

Barely two minutes in, Jansies suffered a hammer blow: fullback Renaldo October was shown red for a dangerous tip tackle, leaving his side a man down. Glenwood’s own fullback, Rosco Williams, soon had the crowd gasping with a sidestep “in a telephone box,” but unforced errors from both teams disrupted the rhythm early on.

The first clear scoring chance came courtesy of Glenwood flyhalf Jonah Chaita, who broke down the left, chipped over the cover, and won the race to the ball—only to knock on with the try line beckoning. Moments later, though, the breakthrough arrived. No. 8 Makhaya Mbaile sold a dummy and powered through for the opening try, converted by scrumhalf Vincenzo Loutz for 7–0.

As Glenwood settled, their attack sharpened but the final pass kept going astray. Right on halftime, hooker Tyler Leon’s bruising run and Loutz’s sniping dart opened space, and Mbaile finished again. Loutz added the extras to give the Durban side a 14–0 cushion at the break.

Leon thundered off the second-half kickoff, but it was EG Jansen who struck first. Christopher van Rooyen was driven over after four minutes, and eight minutes later tighthead prop Elshaan Duminy muscled across, AJ Oeschiger converting to narrow the gap to 14–12.

With momentum shifting, Loutz had a chance to steady Glenwood with a penalty, but his kick drifted wide. Jansies’ pack pressed hard, yet Glenwood’s defence—patched after earlier leaks—held firm. The Green Machine clung on for a tense 14–12 victory.

    • Conversions: Vincenzo Loutz (2)
