Kearsney College proudly celebrated its matric achievers at the end-of-term prize-giving ceremony, honouring academic excellence, leadership, and all-round achievement. Liam Oets was announced as the Dux for 2025. This is also a testament to the College’s consistently high academic standards. It is highlighted by 38% of the boys achieving an aggregate score above 75%.

Liam received Academic Honours Cum Laude (over 86%), along with the subject trophy for Afrikaans. His runner-up, Hayden Dunsdon, also earned Academic Honours Cum Laude. He was also awarded subject prizes for Mathematics, Engineering Graphics and Design, and Information Technology.

Best All-Rounder

The prestigious trophy for Best All-Rounder in the 6th Form was awarded to Joel Steyn. Joel achieved Academic Honours Cum Laude. He also received subject prizes for Drama, Life Sciences (shared), English, and English Literature. A gifted sportsman, he captained the 1st Hockey team. He also represented the College in indoor hockey, cricket, and cross country. His leadership was further recognised through his roles as prefect and Head of Sheffield House.

In total, twelve matriculants achieved Academic Honours Cum Laude. Alongside Liam, Hayden, and Joel, the following boys also attained over 86%. They are Josh Robertson, Joshua Griffiths, Jason de Gryse, Oliver Tubb, Kaylin Moodley, Thayuren Pillay, Head Prefect Luca Sandri, Nicholas Comrie, and Lefa Kgomo.

Academic Honours

  • Academic Honours (80–85%) were awarded to: Kunashe Kamwendo, Joshua Painting, Kade Rencken, Connor van Heerden, Doan Nel, James Hastings-Brown, Luca Mindry, Othandwayo Mvelase, Thendekayi Moto, Jamie van Wyk, Austin Clewlow, Connor Grenfell, and Raine Scoular.
  • Academic Colours (75–79%) were awarded to: Tjama Keta, Oagile Dingake, Kudakwashe Kachambwa, Ryan Osborn, Emre Ozok, Kantse Masilo, Tyler Jelliman, Nkolo Mthembu, James Sim, Cullen Abrahams, Luke Minne, Thabang Ramokgopa, Oliver Hind, Callum McGill, Petrus Snyman, and Samuel Maziya.

Kearsney’s annual prize-giving is a cherished tradition. It celebrates the achievements of its matriculants. It is also dedicated to its staff, as well as the unwavering support of its families.

The ceremony began with the school orchestra performing Gaudeamus Igitur as the procession entered the Dr Skweyiya SportZone. The Kearsney Choir followed with a stirring performance before the awards were presented. It was presented by professional endurance adventurer and best-selling author, Peter van Kets.

The evening concluded with a Benediction delivered by the school chaplain, Rev Kym Bishop, bringing to a close a memorable celebration of excellence.
