World Public Speaking Championships. Ashton International College Shines at National Public Speaking Championships!
Four exceptional students from Ashton International College Ballito — Yalena Lewis, Fei Xu, Megan Smith, and Evan Wilson — took flight alongside their dedicated coaches, Ms. Botma and Mr. Matenjwa, to Johannesburg’s prestigious St Mary’s School, Waverley. They attended the National Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships (NIDPSC) — South Africa’s premier public speaking event! 🇿🇦
🎤 Over four exhilarating days, the Ashton team showcased their eloquence and intellect across five demanding categories:
- Debating
- After Dinner Speech
- Impromptu Speaking
- Persuasive Speaking
- Interpretive Reading
Competing against approximately 15 of the country’s top schools, each student aimed for a coveted spot on the South African Team of 16, which will represent the nation at the World Public Speaking Championships in 2026.
Standout Achievements:
- Fei Xu impressed judges and reached the finals in Persuasive Speaking.
- Yalena Lewis captivated audiences with her wit and delivery, earning a finalist spot in After Dinner Speech.

🎉 Yalena Lewis was selected to join the South African National Team and will proudly represent the country at Worlds 2026 in Bristol, England! 🇬🇧🌍
