Western Cape Canoe Marathon. Camps Bay High School students, Jared Shrimption, Ryley Smith and Holly Smith showcased outstanding skill and determination at the Western Cape Provincial Flat Water Canoe Marathon Championships. It was hosted by the Western Cape Canoe Union at the Zandvlei Estuary in Muizenberg last weekend. Their impressive performance resulted in top positions across various categories, illustrating their commitment to excellence in the sport.
Jared Shrimpton and Ryley Smith dominated the K2 (doubles) race, clinching first place in both the U16 and U18 categories. Jared also emerged victorious in the K1 U16 and U18 events, with Ryley securing second place in the same categories.
In the U18 Girls K2 category, Holly Smith, partnered with Georgia Singe from Fish Hoek High School, claimed first place. Holly further distinguished herself with a commendable second place in the U18 Girls K1 event.
Said Camps Bay High School’s Head of Sport, Ms. Busi Ngcwama: “The flat water canoe marathon demands physical fitness, mental resilience, and strategic skill. We commend Jared, Ryley and Holly for their outstanding achievements in this challenging competition.”
