Union’s u/11 cricketers in action against Cradock Primary.
On Monday afternoon, 21 October, Union High School’s junior cricketers competed against Cradock Primary in their annual derby.
In their respective match, Union’s u/11A team won the toss and decided that the opposition should bowl first. Union didn’t get off to a good start as they lost two early wickets and were put under pressure by good bowling. Neelon Fourie (who scored 40 runs not out) and Yaseen Kazi (23 not out) brought the innings together with an 80-run partnership. Union ended their innings on 99 after 20 overs.
Cradock then came in to bat. Although they looked good from the start, Union’s line and length bowling put them under pressure in the middle overs. They eventually only managed to score 83 runs, giving Union a winning margin of 16 runs.
Owen Paxton, Peter-Daniel Clegg and Daniel Short each took a wicket.
Union’s u/13A cricketers also faced Cradock yesterday afternoon. Union won the toss and choose to bowl first. Cradock managed to reach 84/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Union’s opening batsmen then put together a decent partnership, laying a solid foundation to reach the target in the 14th over. Union won the match with 5 wickets to spare.
The u/9A cricketers also enjoyed a competitive match against Cradock Primary, which they won by 43 runs.
Well done to all the teams!
