Union High School has always been closely tied to the scouting movement in Graaff-Reinet. The Graaff-Reinet Scout Troop was established in 1910 and is recognized throughout South Africa for its calibre of Scouts that go out into the world.
Scouts offer boys of Union High School and beyond (from Grade 5 to 12) an extracurricular activity aimed at helping them build their self-worth while inculcating sound morals and developing positive self-esteem. The Scout Troop meets on Thursday evenings from 18:30 to 20:30 at the
Chookie Geard Scout Hall, where skills such as outdoor survival, first aid, citizenship, leadership as well as teamwork are learned.
