The 1st team match proved to be a fast-paced, energetic and exciting challenge. Both teams had their eye on the win.
The first quarter brought Union to the scoring line with Micela Loock taking the team to 1 – 0 up. Union continued to play smart hockey creating opportunities and keeping Pearson on their toes. With the tone set, the girls were eager for more, however, a momentary lapse in concentration caused the Pearson strikers to equalise with a soft goal in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter had both teams set back to equal territory, both fighting for victory. The Union girls fought hard to score a second goal through Henzé Jaftha to cement a 2 – 1 lead. Pearson was, however, awarded a final short corner after full time – to which they “It was very disappointing to walk away with a draw after a well-fought victorious battle,” said coach Alvin August. “It is, however, very exciting to think of what good hockey is still to come. The season is sure to end on a high. Well done to all those who participated with such good sportsmanship and determination.”
* In other results, the third team lost 0 – 6, the second team lost 1 – 2, the u/16As lost 1 – 2 and the u/16Bs lost 0 – 7.
