An excited team of 10 students from the University of Pretoria visited Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School today for the 2021 “Walk For Hope” from Durban to Pretoria, a part of the Walk4Access student initiative.
The Walk4Access initiative was launched in 2019 where students walked from Cape Town to Pretoria and raised R100 000 in 21 days. They assisted 10 students with access to the university and provided 5 000 cooked meals during the final exams of 2019. Due to Lockdown Level 5 the initiative could not continue in 2020.
However this year they have taken on the challenge again. The group’s goal is to walk the 650kms from Durban Girls’ High school and end at Pretoria Girls’ High. Their aim is to raise awareness about tertiary education.
Our Grade 12s led by our top nine learner leaders welcomed them to GHS this afternoon. They were cheered and marched through a guard of honour.
