St David’s Basketball Tour. The annual St David’s Marist School Basketball Tournament in Johannesburg showcased the talents of the St Andrew’s College, Grahamstown, basketball teams, with both the U15A and 1st teams competing against some of the best schools in the country.
St Andrew’s U15 team
The U15A team had an impressive tournament, demonstrating skill and plenty of determination throughout their matches. They secured victories in two of their pool games, beating Redhill School and Pretoria Boys High School, which earned them a spot in the Quarter Finals. In a hard-fought battle against a formidable St Alban’s College team, the boys fell short by just 9 points. St Alban’s, who eventually reached the finals, proved to be a tough opponent. Despite this setback, the U15As finished the tournament in 7th place, falling to Sacred Heart High School and beating St John’s College, marking their best performance since winning the tournament in 2021.
St Andrew’s1st team
The 1st Team faced a more challenging tournament, playing a total of six games and managing to secure only one victory. While they showed promise in the first two quarters of their matches, the team struggled to maintain their momentum in the latter stages. Their sole win came against Sacred Heart High School, however they faced tough competition from King Edwards VII School and St Benedict’s College, both of whom finished in the top four. In the placement games, the boys went head-to-head with local rivals Grey High School but unfortunately lost in the fourth quarter. The 1st Team concluded the tournament in 12th position. Despite the challenges, there are many positives to build on, and the team is eager to develop their skills and gain more experience moving forward.
Overall, the St Andrew’s College basketball teams showcased their potential at the St David’s Marist Tournament and we look forward to the development of the Basketball Club.
