St Charles Founders day. St Charles College Founders Day Dash. On 26 July 2021, St Charles College turned 146 years old. After a few days of rain, a few weeks of wind and many months of Covid affected events, it was great to have the whole College come out on Harwin Drive. They enjoyed a traditional event – St Charles College Founders Day Dash.
The spectators and competitors alike enjoyed the running of The Dash, in absolutely perfect conditions. One of the special traditions is to start the race by ringing the bell in the remembrance garden. Long-serving stalwarts, Mrs Janet de Croes, Mrs Glenda Frangs and Mrs Barbara Thorpe started the races. Between them, these incredible ladies have served the St Charles College family for over 70 years. “What a truly remarkable example they are to all of us… we salute them!”
On the road, the competition was red-hot, with all the races being decided in the final few metres, except the Prep winner. Mondli Gwetu ran an amazing race to break the Prep record (which was 1:27,12). Congratulations to the fastest runner of the day, Seth Rose, who shone for Delalle House. His name will now be etched into history on the brass plaque that features on the water fountain alongside the first turning circle.
