Durban High School travelled to Pietermaritzburg to play St Charles College on Saturday, 4 August 2018. Both teams started the match with a high intensity and after ten minutes the Saints won a free-kick on the right hand side of the big box. Prince Mazeka stepped up and drilled the ball into the top left hand corner, 1-0 to St Charles College.
DHS responded well and soon it was 1-1, with a quick counter attack and a well-finished goal. St Charles College went in front when Linda Khumalo beat the off-side trap to finish well with his left foot. The goal of the match belonged to Prince Mazeka with a free-kick from 30 metres that left the DHS goalkeeper stranded. With half-time approaching it was DHS who pulled one back to go into the break 2-3 down.
The second half it was DHS who pressed and were on level terms, 15 minutes into the second half, 3-3. Both teams looked for a winner and when the Saints won a free-kick just outside the box, Corey Smith floated a ball into the box and substitute Maziko Theu flicked a header into the bottom left corner. St Charles College were victors 4-3, in a highly entertaining match, and it was Saints player Wandile Zuma who was the man of the match on debut, playing at Centre-Back. – Mr Gary Richie (1st Team Football Coach)
