St Charles College, Pietermaritzburg, once again put their unbeaten season on the line in the final game of the season against Westville. St Charles College played a stayers team while Westville played a leavers side, but despite Westville’s matric players, it was St Charles College who got off to the better start. St Charles College implemented a high energy full court press which forced Westville into a number of turnovers in their own half.
The Saints were quick to capitalise on these early errors which led to a number of uncontested layups. With full court pressure which seemed impenetrable, the Saints opened up a large first quarter lead. Due to the large lead, the Saints were able to rotate their bench which meant they always had fresh legs on the court. This ultimately resulted in the scoreboard ticking over and the lead extending. St Charles College dominated defensively throughout the game but also supplemented this with accurate shooting from range. In the end, the Saints secured a comfortable 84 – 42 victory.
