Grade 7 students Naledi Mthimunye, Lily Holroyd, Emma Rumsey and Sophia Stegmann from St Andrew’s School for Girls, Bedfordview, were selected by the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists Johannesburg Central Region’s committee members to take part in the Eskom Expo International Science Fair (ISF) held in September. Naledi Mthimunye and Lily Holroyd project’s on Phytoremediation (Environmental Studies) and Emma Rumsey’s project on the effect of water hyacinth as an effective fertilizer for tomato plants (Plant Sciences) received gold medals. Sophia Stegmann was a silver medalist at the event, winning Best Category winner in the Animal Sciences section for her project entitled “Can you change the nutritional value of chicken eggs?”
