St Andrew’s School for Girls celebrates Pride Month

St Andrew’s School for Girls’ Matric girls added colour to their campus today in honour of Pride Month. It is an entire month dedicated to the uplifting of LGBTQI+ voices, celebration of their culture and the support of their rights. This year is the 50th anniversary of the first Pride parade, which happened in 1970, one year after the Stonewall Uprising in America. The girls requested to raise the Pride flag to show the school’s solidarity to the LGBTQI+ community. The Pride flag was created by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. In the widely known six-colour flag, red is symbolic of life, orange is symbolic of spirit, yellow is sunshine, green is nature, blue represents harmony and purple is spirit.
