Franklin D. Roosevelt Primary School
Vision
Our vision is a smart delivery of quality primary education.
Mission
We aim to instil in each pupil a passion for learning and a commitment to reach one’s potential throughout life.Ā We strive to develop and maintain civilized norms and values and, in so doing, enhance the character and ethos of the School.
Geographical location:
The School is situated within a short distance from general amenities, such as medical centres, the Roosevelt Park Fire Station, the main road of Beyers NaudĆ©, bus stops and shopping centres such as Northcliff Corner and Cresta. It lies within two kilometres of one of Johannesburgās most famous landmarks, the Northcliff water tower on AasvoĆ«l Kop.
Rich History
The School was officially opened in April of 1952 which makes it 66 years of age! It started off as a collection of prefabricated classrooms which eventually were replaced by the brick buildings that we know today, erected in the Sixties. The School has undergone a great deal of transformation and today is recognised as one of the few Public Schools in Gauteng which is truly representative of the social demographics of the Province. In its own small way, it Ā provides a foundation of social cohesion within the context of the broader South Africa.
Proud Tradition
Franklin D Roosevelt Primary has maintained its reputation for academic excellence and sporting prowess. The emphasis on cultural education has always been a feature with musical concerts taking place annually.
Infrastructural development
Over the last few years, the School Governing Body has embarked on a programme to upgrade the buildings and grounds in order to make the learners and parents proud to be part of FDR Primary. Almost every part of the School has received a make-over to better the appearance of its ageing infrastructure. Much effort to raise funds for these improvements has been made by both staff and parents alike.
Reasonable classroom sizes in all grades
We have been most fortunate not to have classroom sizes growing to above 33 learners in a class with many classes having fewer than30 Ā learners in them.
