All the Merensky High School grade 8’s got down to serious tree planting business on Wednesday 8 February 2017 during the traditional tree planting ceremony.
This year no less than two indigenous lanes were added to the Plasie arboretum. A new row of Wild Mangoes (Cordyla Africana) and Matumi’s (Breonadia salicina) now enhances the B rugby field, while a variety of other trees will provide shade around the infamous MooPoo hub.
This tradition originated in 2015 and since then the various grade 8 groups take ownership of the trees until they leave school at the end of matric. Some of the learners expressed the wish to one day return with their families and enjoy the shade of “their” tree.
