According to the Department of Higher Education & Training (Government Gazette 19 January 2016 the list of skills shortage is quite extensive.

Towards the end of Grade 9 you need to have an idea more or less what you want to do after school.  Not just is it important to know what you want to study, but it is also important for you know what you like and dislike and what your strong and weaker points are.

If you like to design, construct and maintain things, perhaps Engineering is the field for you.

Engineers are people who design, construct, and maintain structures, materials and systems while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety, and cost. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineer )

Engineers have a wide area of expertise to choose from.
