Senior Deputy Head Prefect. LIke the past few years, schoolsthatrock chat with the Head Leaders of High Schools in South Africa. The next leader we chat with today is Reece Higgins, Senior Deputy Head Prefect of Edgemead High School in Cape Town.
“As the Senior Deputy Head Prefect of Edgemead High School 2025, I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of this year. I’ve been blessed to be put in this position. Even though it may be hard work, I am happy to accept the challenge.Â
When it comes to my personal goals, i’d like to step out of my comfort zone a little bit. This also being my last year of high school, I figured I might as well make the best of it. My goals for my school, i’d like to help others within the school. Even if it’s something like wishing someone a good day. I’ve seen many people with a frown on their face. If I can make one person’s day better, I’d be happy.Â
Qualities of Edgemead High School
The qualities of Edgemead High School standing out the most, is the school’s constant pursuit of excellence. I believe that you should always push to be better. Do your best in everything, whether it be in sport, academics, etc.Â
Adjustments or changes I would like to see happen at our school? I’d like the school to put a bit more focus on certain sports, specifically summer sports like athletics, softball and tennis.Â
Persuading a person to join our school, I’d mention that we are very academic focused and have a very positive learning environment. The school would also help you to gain experience from the different clubs and societies.Â
My strongest leadership trait is that I am willing to work hard even when nobody is watching. I know that hard work will eventually pay off. I’m also very dedicated to the goals I set.
Collaboration
To get collaboration from my team, I emphasize that there is a time and a place for fun and games, and a time and a place to be serious and to work.Â
The person I look up to the most? I live a life where I am very often praying and reading the Bible. I see Jesus as my guide and strength. He helps me get up when I fall, and I know that even if I have nothing, I have Jesus!Â
I am a track athlete, so many times I day dream about track meets or practices with my team and coach.Â
My favourite dish is Chicken alfredo.Â
I don’t have a set career goal at the moment, but id like to go into the sport industry or study nutrition at either UWC or Stellenbosch University.”
