“I started playing hockey when I was in grade 1.
I currently play center forward and I have previously played right and left forward. I was vice captain for the 1st team in primary school (grade 7).
Our coach gives us an exercise routine that our whole team does before each practice starts in order for us to bring our fitness levels up as a team. The exercises change all the time but we mainly focus on leg and stomach workouts. We also do cardio to improve our fitness. I, as an individual, go to the gym on the other days that I don’t have hockey. When I am at the gym I mostly do leg and stomach workouts and then some days I will run on the treadmill for cardio.
I do not participate in any other sport. I prefer team sport as we can all work together to achieve our goal and we can all motivate each other to do better.
My duty as vice captain is to help lead the team and set a good example so they can look up to us as captains. I also must be a good influence on everyone in the team and to motivate everyone to be the best hockey player they can be.
I would love to carry on hockey after school, but I’ll only do so if I can be 100% committed to playing consistently, otherwise if I haven’t got much time I won’t carry on the sport.”
