It is a priviledge for Schools That Rock to introduce Kayden De Barros, Vice-captain of Edgemead’s 1st Boys Soccer team, to the visitors to our website.
“My sporting career began at the age of 6 and I have not regretted a single second since. My current position on the soccer field is right back but recently I have been pushing up to wing and using my pace.
I haven’t played in many other positions in the past. I was lucky enough to find my passion at a young age. I have captained a few games at my club but currently I am not the captain at club level, just a junior in the Vasco First Team.
Our routine as a team right now is focused on tactics and team chemistry with fitness on the side. You can never forget about fitness. Personally, I am focusing on muscle building, doing my own gym routine focusing on every muscle and making sure I do conditioning on my injuries.
I took part in athletics for a short period of time, focusing on 100m sprints, but nothing compares to the passion I have for soccer. Team sport is the way to go for me. It is just all about the shared passion and bonds that you build through the years that puts team sports on another level compared to individual sports.
As a captain, my role is to set an example on and off the pitch as well as to stick up for my teammates. We are a family on that field and as a captain I stand up for and protect my brothers, but being a captain is not about the title, it is about earning the respect and trust of your team mates.
Football has been and will forever be my dream. I don’t plan on letting injuries or any obstacles stop me from trying to further my career in sport, however I do plan on studying in information systems to make sure I have something to fall back onto.”
