Schools Soccer League. The Crawford Sandton Under 14s, aka the ‘Super Candy Stripes,’ contested the Cup Final of the Independent Schools Soccer League. The game took place at Panorama Football Club in Roodepoort.
The Super Candy Stripes qualified for the Final in a buoyant mood. They dispatched Kings School West Rand, by four goals to nil. Their opponents in the Final were the much vaunted Steyn City School. Although the Super Candy Stripes had beaten Steyn City in the group stages, a tough encounter was anticipated. The Super Candy Stripes really rose to the occasion. From the outset, the Steyn City School was laid under siege. Some great teamwork soon saw the Crawford boys secure an early two goal lead. However, Steyn City proved their salt as worthy opposition by pulling a goal back to set up a tense Cup Final.
This is when the experience and class of our boys shone through as they dominated the game by scoring another two goals to secure a highly impressive 4-1 Cup Final victory. It must be noted that this is also the first time that the Crawford Sandton under 14 team has secured the silverware! No goal scorers are mentioned as this victory was inspired and dedicated to the entire team. The ‘Super Candy Stripes,’ had a squad of 22 players who also played skilfully throughout the season and in the games leading up to the victory. The entire squad attended the final game and collectively celebrated after the winning match!
The Super Candy Stripes went through the entire season undefeated with a proud record of 34 goals scored!
