SASHOC Nationals. The South African Schools’ Hockey Association (SASHOC) proudly announces the return of the SASHOC Nationals to Bloemfontein following the success of the 2023 tournament. The 2024 event is hosted by the University of the Free State, Grey College, Eunice High School for Girls, St Andrew’s School, and St. Michael’s School. The event will run from 16 June to 3 July. Competitions will span three age groups: u/18 (16-21 June), u/13 (23-26 June), and u/16 (28 June to 3 July).
SASHOC is also delighted to announce the continued support of their key sponsors: Spar and trompie Sport. Both brands have reaffirmed their commitment to the SASHOC Nationals. It ensures that the event remains a premier platform for young athletes to shine. In addition, SASHOC welcomes TK Sport as a new sponsor for 2024, furthering the support for their players.
Youth development
Marlene Gunther, SPAR’s Sponsorship Controller, reiterated SPAR’s dedication to youth development. She said: “Investing in youth is investing in our future. SPAR is also dedicated to empowering young athletes and fostering their growth.” She emphasised that this sponsorship aligns with SPAR’s sponsorship pillars of women empowerment, nutrition and education, reflecting also their vision of being the first-choice brand in the communities they serve.
Dean Stokes, Marketing Manager at Trompie Sport, also reflected on their ongoing partnership, stating, “Reflecting on our inaugural year with SASHOC, we’re pleased to announce that we will extend our sponsorship, fostering opportunities for these rising stars and playing a role in their journey to excel on the National stage.”
Generation of hockey stars
Zone23 is also proud to announce a new partnership with SASHOC, thanks to TK Sport‘s Managing Director, Rassie Pieterse. Pieterse is thrilled about this collaboration, stating, “We are not just in the business of selling; we are also here to foster the love of the game. Partnering with SASHOCÂ will also help nurture the next generation of hockey stars.”
The main field at the UFS Hockey Astro will host the A-section games, with B-section matches at Grey College and Eunice High School for Girls. An agreement with SuperSport Schools also ensures live broadcasts of the matches. SASHOC is committed to ensuring access to all and one of the strategies to achieve this is through the partnership with, similar to their recent initiative with the launch of their brand-new SASHOC website. People can view the matches through the Super Sport Schools app and selected matches on SuperSport Channel 216, providing easy access to all the exciting hockey action.
 SASHOC Chairman Wendell Domingo highlighted the importance of opportunities for young hockey players. “Last year, 1,948 youth players participated in the SASHOC Nationals, and 3,482 individuals attended SASHOC regional tournaments. The sport is growing and we look forward to showcasing the latest generation of players.”
