St Charles College newly elected Head Boy, Daniel Jacobs, addressed the staff and boys regarding the significance of the day, the sacrifice of the brave men and women around the world who gave their lives in war. These individuals were willing to stand for what was right, often in the face of extreme oppression and injustice, willing to sacrifice much, in some cases the ultimate sacrifice of their lives. The challenge was then issued. We too may be called on to sacrifice, perhaps not in war, but in the daily routine of life. 2020 has, perhaps, given us a measure of perspective of sacrifice as we consider the weight of history and look to our immediate future. Where will our character be put to the test? Will we stand against injustice? Will we be a voice for those who have none? Will we continue to lay down our ambitions, convenience’s and time for others?
At this point in the service two of our Grade 9 boy, Nathan Van Staden and Malachi Prigge, preformed a moving rendition of Amazing Grace on harmonica and vocals, respectively. During this interlude we paused to remember those who gave their lives in war, and with gratitude lay a wreath for those St Charles College boys who offered their lives in these wars.
After the service, everyone joined outside for the releasing of doves, symbolizing the release of our loved ones. This capped a meaningful Remembrance Day service for St Charles College. – Mr Ross Ducasse (St Charles College Chaplain). Photo credits: Saysha Baker
