On 28 and 29 August Point High School successfully staged a musical entitled GOOD-BYE & HALLO.
The musical traces the journey of 18-year-old Paul Kruger as he tries to discover himself during a gap year of visiting the 7 continents.Ā His father, an Afrikaans-speaking engineering professor, is very much against Paul’s journey of discovery, but Paul finds himself studying at the the University of Life.Ā He watches MADAME BUTTERFLY in Japan, he joins in a traditional dance in a street in India, he visits the Rhine River in Germany and learns about the legend of Die Lorelei, he narrowly escapes gang violence in America ……
Approximately 120 learners took part in the musical as actors, singers or dancers.Ā The musical played to full houses on both nights and participants were treated to a standing ovation on both nights.Ā The story line, music and dancing seemed to strike a cord with both young and old.
It will be difficult to repeat the success of this production in two years’ time, when Point will be staging its next production.
